The first set of rankings for the 2017 college football season were released in the form of the Amway Coaches Poll. Who got snubbed and who got lucky?
The first edition of the Amway Coaches Poll was recently released for 2017. Since we are drawing closer and closer to the kick off of the next college football season, it’s time to start talking about favorites for the College Football Playoff and the National Championship.
Alabama was, once again, tabbed the No. 1 team as they were just one season ago. The Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida State Seminoles followed the Tide at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. All three teams have been consistently mentioned as playoff favorites.
Yet, with every release of preseason rankings comes much speculation, surprises, snubs and questioning of the poll. Teams like the LSU Tigers, Auburn Tigers, Stanford Cardinal, Georgia Bulldogs and Texas Longhorns that all disappointed just a season ago are ranked inside the top 25 again. Not to say that Auburn, LSU, and Georgia aren’t talented this year but they do need to back it up on the field before they earn the respect of the entire college football world.
In this article, we look at the eight biggest surprises and snubs of the first edition of the Coaches Poll. Teams that were left out of the rankings entirely are a heavy topic of discussion here as well as teams that were ranked too high or too low.
