The LSU football team is losing a star player in starting right guard Maea Teuhema to transfer after he struggled academically.
Just one day after being suspended by Ed Orgeron from the LSU football program, starting right guard Maea Teuhema announced he would be transferring. The news came as a shock, but he seemed to be ready to move on.
While speculation will run rampant regarding which school he may pick, he has narrowed it down to five choice, per reports.
According to SportsIllustrated.com‘s Bruce Feldman, Maea has been granted permission by LSU to contact a handful of schools that are high on his list. Those include USC, UCLA, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Houston.
The last program on the list may seem like a bit of a surprise, but the Cougars are on the rise under Major Applewhite and he’s also from Texas. He could come back home to finish his college career.
Maea had a solid start to his LSU career, starting for two consecutive seasons, even earning Freshman All-American honors in 2015. He was a top-50 recruit coming out of high school and was ranked the No. 2 guard in the 2015 class. He was also an Army All-American.
Whichever school he decides to attend this fall, he will have to sit out for the season because of NCAA transfer rules. He was expected to enter fall camp in Baton Rouge as the third-year starter and leader on the offensive line, but he was suspended because of academics earlier this week.

Could your school use some help along the offensive line? If so, Maea would be available next season, barring his academic progress, and could be a potential All-American guard.
