Georgia football is a way of life for the residents of Athens but they might not be so happy with the results they see in 2017.

The SEC East is packed full of teams with high expectations that could fall flat on their faces this season. The Tennessee Volunteers, Georgia Bulldogs, and South Carolina Gamecocks could all have rough goings this year if things don’t fall their way. Florida has the best chance at winning the division without having a floor that is too low.

Georgia, like Tennessee, seems to always have presumptions of greatness every preseason. The Dawgs have not even got close to a National Championship since they lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2012 SEC Championship Game on a last second defeat. Beating Alabama in that game would likely have put Georgia in the National Championship against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

There’s potential written all over the Bulldog roster with players like sophomore quarterback Jacob Eason, junior defensive lineman Trenton Thompson, and junior receiver Terry Godwin. Not to mention Georgia has one of the best backfields in the country between senior running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel.

Georgia went 8-5 (4-4 SEC) last year with tough losses against Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt. If the Dawgs cannot overcome opponents of that level in 2017 then they’ll be in trouble once again. However, all of those were close games that could have easily fallen in Georgia’s favor.

The Amway Coaches Poll ranked Georgia no. 15, as one of the six SEC teams ranked inside the top 25. Now, let’s take a look at five reasons why the Georgia Bulldogs will stink in 2017.
