3. Kirby Smart still has a lot to prove

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was brought over after the firing of former head coach Mark Richt. Smart was the defensive coordinator under Nick Saban from 2008-2015 and won numerous National Championships in the process. He was hailed as a top notch recruiter that could piece together a defense better than almost any coach in the country.

However, Smart’s first season in Athens was anything but impressive. Georgia posted its worst record since the 2013 season in Smart’s first year as head coach. Although Richt never lived up to expectations he had a great first season with the Miami Hurricanes and possibly left a few Georgia fans wondering what could have happened if he stayed.

Not to say that Smart just needed some time to get used to things as a head coach and start making adjustments to how he wanted to run things in Athens but the Dawgs did underachieve last year. They started a freshman quarterback and dealt with a large amount of injuries for most of the season.

Another year of progression with Eason and getting the defense up to speed could be just what Smart needed. However, if things do not start trending in the right direction, his days in Athens could be numbered.
