Former Rutgers football player L.J. Liston has been charged with murder after an incident that took place on July 30.

In one of the more eye-opening off-field incidents in recent memory, former Rutgers football player L.J. Liston was charged with murder after he was accused of revenge killing.

Liston, a native of Grand Blanc, Mich., transferred from Rutgers in 2014 to move back home for his newborn son and play football at Northern Michigan. However, it had been rumored he was in the doghouse constantly at Rutgers. He was supposedly in the Flint area when the gun-related incident took place.

According to MLive‘s Dominic Adams, the former linebacker was charged with first-degree murder in a “revenge killing” incident that took place on July 30.

The victim was 44-year-old Larry James Dunn who was found by police just before midnight on July 30. The report from MLive states that Liston is being accused for getting revenge regarding another homicide, but no further details about the murder have been released.

Liston had a quiet career, though, for Rutgers and then-head coach Kyle Flood. He played just two seasons for the Scarlet Knights, posting 15 tackles in 2013 and 14 in 2014 before leaving the program in 2015. He was struggling to become a regular member of the linebacking corps.

Now, he faces charges that could land him in jail for a long, long time. He was arraigned on the charges on Aug. 4 and is being held without bail. He’s set to appear before a judge on Aug. 17 for a probable cause conference.
