Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh was voted the most overrated in college football by some anonymous peers.

Kickoff is right around the corner for college football fans and it’s time to start truly diving into regular season talk. Who will win each respective conference? Which players will break out? Which coach is the most overrated in the country? Wait, what?

That’s right, there has been a recent poll that revealed a certain Michigan football coach may be just a tad overhyped.

According to Saturday Tradition, a recent series of interviews conducted by CBS Sports writers asked one-fifth of all FBS coaches who the most overrated in the nation was.

Their answer? Jim Harbaugh. While this isn’t much of a surprise based on the consensus opinion from casual college football fans, folks in Ann Arbor would argue to the death to the contrary.

In two seasons with Michigan, Harbaugh has won 20 games and is 1-1 in bowls. However, he hasn’t finished higher than third place in the Big Ten East and he’s 0-2 vs. Ohio State and 1-1 against Michigan State — the Wolverines’ two biggest rivals.

Surprisingly, Michigan fans have been cutting him a break for struggling against rivals and not finishing higher in the division despite running Brady Hoke out of town for the same reasons.

Why do his peers believe he’s overrated? He brings in a lot of hype and top recruits to Ann Arbor, but he has yet to truly win anything of importance. Sure a blowout bowl win over Florida is great, but it didn’t count for anything more than a lousy bowl trophy.

This should surely cause some controversy prior to the season’s kickoff, but those coaches who voted for Harbaugh, as well as others, remained anonymous. Nick Saban, Lane Kiffin and Lovie Smith rounded out the top four.
