Wisconsin football has called off its August 10 trip to Milwaukee due to inclement weather forecasts. There are no plans to reschedule the event.

In a special edition practice, the Wisconsin Badgers football team announced they would be heading an hour east prior to the season started for a special team practice in the state’s largest city, Milwaukee. Following the practice, the Badgers would then hit Miller Park for the Milwaukee Brewers’ contest versus the Minnesota Twins.

The date was scheduled for Thursday, August 10 and head coach Paul Chryst designed the trip in order to break his players out of the normal, everyday routine to avoid any sort of burnout. It would also give the team a chance to go to work on a field and setting other than Camp Randall.

The practice was set to be had at Custer Stadium in Milwaukee at the old Custer High School grounds and was to be open to the public, a chance for Badgers fans outside of Madison to watch their favorite team in action prior to the season.

Unfortunately for the fans and team, inclement weather is pending—forcing the team to cancel its Milwaukee trip with the risk of being unable to get a practice in. Strong thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecasted during the time of practice in Milwaukee and carry on all throughout the afternoon and evening.

“It’s disappointing that we’re unable to go to Milwaukee,” Chryst said via the UW Badgers athletic department. “I know there was a lot of planning that took place and I’d like to thank Bill Molbeck of Milwaukee Public Schools for all his help. Our hope is to be able to visit at some point in the future.”

With the high likelihood of storms, it is not worth bringing an entire team, along with their equipment and resources and logistically made sense to call it off.
