Linebackers

Starting outside linebackers: Randy Ramsey, Dwayne Eugene
Backups: Gabe Richardson, Hayden Henry

Arkansas is rotating outside linebackers like mad right now, with injuries hitting the unit hard and claiming two candidates to start at the “Hog” position — basically a linebacker/defensive end combo in new defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads’ 3-4.

It’s created an odd sort of situation in which Randy Ramsey, a projected starter at the other outside linebacker spot, has become the first-string Hog. Ramsey’s a bit undersized for the position, but he impressed in rotational duty last season. Senior Dwayne Eugene led all returnees in the unit in tackles last season, and should be a lock to start alongside Ramsey.

The Razorbacks are thin beyond their top two. Second-team reps in the fall have been rotating between JUCO transfer Gabe Richardson and true freshman Hayden Henry, among others.

Starting middle linebackers: Dre Greenlaw, De’Jon Harris
Backups: Grant Morgan, Josh Harris

Things are a bit more cut-and-dry in the middle of the defense, where the Hogs return a pair of talented linebackers in Greenlaw and Harris who’ll be counted on to shore up the team’s run defense this season. Greenlaw’s been battling injuries this summer but should be good to go for Week One; this is a blessing for the injury-ridden Razorbacks who have a number of talented but unproven bodies behind their starting duo. Redshirt freshman Grant Morgan has been running with the first team in Greenlaw’s absence.
