Starting quarterback: Brandon Harris
Backup: Nathan Elliott

Replacing an entire backfield combo — Mitch Trubisky and Elijah Hood — won’t be easy, but there will be starting experience coming to the quarterback position. Although Brandon Harris never truly panned out with LSU, the grad transfer might just take some strides forward with a fresh start.

The former highly-touted four-star dual-threat quarterback was expected to star in LSU’s offense, but never lived up to the hype. After a decent sophomore season where he passed for 2,165 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 226 and four scores, he dropped off as a junior, losing his starting job to a Purdue transfer.

Harris watched as his head coach was fired as well and he figured it was time for him to start fresh somewhere else, picking North Carolina as his transfer destination. The Tar Heels’ other quarterbacks aren’t going down without a fight, though. There’s going to be an epic battle this fall as the projected No. 2 gunslinger is sophomore Nathan Elliott.

Elliott attempted just nine passes as a redshirt freshman in 2016, but he did complete eight of them for 55 yards. The Texas-native is pushing for that starting spot, along with redshirt freshmen Chazz Surratt and Logan Byrd.
