Courtney Love is a famous singer and actress who just so happens to share a name with a current Kentucky Wildcats linebacker. All of the pieces came together earlier this summer when the university sent a congratulatory tweet to their linebacker for his appearance on the preseason Lott Trophy Watch List.

The songwriter Love, responded with a short, but funny retort:

So, who exactly is Courtney Love, the football player?

Love began his collegiate career at Nebraska. He played sparingly during his freshman season. It wasn’t for very long, but Love saw the field briefly in 12 games that year. He registered four tackles in Lincoln before transferring to Kentucky in 2015, where he sat out the 2016 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Finally, he suited up for the Wildcats on Saturdays in 2016.

The Youngstown, Ohio native earned the starting job from day one and was named the team captain prior to the Wildcats bowl game against Georgia Tech. He’s a familiar face to Kentucky football fans, but the rest of the nation seems to overlooked him for his namesake.

Last season love registered 76 tackles, third most of the team behind Jordan Jones and Mike Edwards. Jones will play alongside love at linebacker this year and Edwards will back them up from the safety position.

Love is known for his dedication to service that matches his high-caliber play on the field. He’s a great guy in the locker room and a ballhawking defender on the field. He’s going to be at the center of the Wildcats’ front seven in 2017. If he continues to improve as a run stopper fans around the country might learn his name, too.
