Ohio State football returns quarterback J.T. Barrett who has one more chance at the elusive Heisman Trophy in 2017. Here are five reasons why he can win it.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the most recognizable brand names in the country. Under head coach Urban Meyer they have solidified themselves as one of the two best programs in the country, over the last five years, alongside the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Some of the best and most recognizable players returning for the Buckeyes in 2017 include redshirt senior quarterback J.T. Barrett, redshirt sophomore running back Mike Weber, redshirt senior tight end Marcus Baugh, redshirt junior defensive end Sam Hubbard and junior linebacker Jerome Baker. Ohio State is definitely loaded with talent entering 2017, even with the suspension of defensive lineman Michael Hill.

The most recent release of the Heisman odds, according to Odds Shark, have Barrett with the third best odds to win the trophy. He’s tied with Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and the former Heisman Trophy winner and Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson on the odds list.

Superstar USC quarterback Sam Darnold has the best odds to bring home the Heisman at +250. Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has the second best odds to win the Heisman at +750. Barrett is not that far behind Mayfield at +800 odds.

Barrett was one of the favorites to win the Heisman in 2016, even up to November 14 when he had the fourth best odds behind Jackson, former Michigan safety Jabrill Peppers, and former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

With it being so tough to bring home back-to-back Heismans, Jackson does not have the best chance to win it again in 2017. He’ll have to top his 51 total touchdown and more than 5,000 yard effort that he put up in 2016.

Now, let’s take a look at five reasons why Barrett will win the Heisman Trophy in 2017.
