Notre Dame football released some interested Knute Rockne-inspired alternate uniforms which the Irish will wear Nov. 18.
Knute Rockne is one of the most famous college football coaches of all time. The former Notre Dame football coach went 105-12-5 back in the early 1900s when he was in charge and was credited for making the Fighting Irish an exciting team to watch.

In fact, many argue that he put Notre Dame on the college football map. Well, the Irish are honoring the man who made it all possible in 2017 by sporting a Rockne-inspired alternate uniform for the Nov. 18 game against Navy.

On the sleeve, the famous Rockne speech (which many know from the move ‘Rudy’) appears along with throwback looks on the shoes and helmet. The shoes are supposed to resemble old leather cleats from the days when Rockne coached (1918-30).
As for the caps, from a distance it looks like the classic gold dome, but up close, you can see the striped which is supposed to resemble the leather helmet. The script on the back reads “Rockne” and there are three stars on the collar.
Notre Dame needs something to get excited about after a lackluster 2016 season in which they went 4-8 and almost lost head coach Brian Kelly. He is expected to start the 2017 campaign on the hot seat, but an 8-9 win season would surely change that.

The Fighting Irish have had some interesting alternate uniforms in the past and it looks like this one might draw some criticism as well from fans. Everyone loves the classic Notre Dame look, but it doesn’t hurt to change it up once a year, especially to honor a legend.
