2. Who’s behind center for the Spartans?

If SJSU hopes to get back to a bowl in 2017, they’ll need a steady hand at quarterback. There’s no clarity at the position yet, as Brennan mentioned that the Spartans may not pick a starter until right before the opening snap on Saturday. Even then, they may rotate bodies.

That’s not necessarily an encouraging thought for Spartan fans, but at the very least it’ll provide us with a good look at how SJSU’s quarterbacks perform under game conditions. Sophomore Josh Love is the only one of the bunch who’s played in a college game before, but he failed to impress in 2016, throwing five interceptions against just two touchdowns.

Other options include redshirt freshman Montel Aaron, a former 3-star recruit who was listed as dead even with Love on the latest depth chart, and sophomore Sam Allen, who’s drawn praise from Brennan during fall camp.

This could be a competition that will rage throughout the season. A hunch for Saturday: Love takes the first snap, but Aaron winds up playing the most.
