Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney has agreed to a lucrative contract extension that will keep him in Death Valley until 2024.

It was only a matter a time until Dabo Swinney got the new extension from the Athletic Department at Clemson University. In under 10 years, he has turned the Tigers from a punchline to the top of the College Football world.

On October 13, 2008, former Clemson Tiger head coach Tommy Bowden resigned from the team. In came William Christopher “Dabo” Swinney. Two months later, Swinney had a 4-2 record and signed a five-year contract to lead the Tigers down the Hill.

In his first full year as head coach, Swinney won the ACC Atlantic and a berth to the ACC Championship Game. Clemson won the Atlantic for the first time ever. This would be the first of five division championships for Swinney, the most in the Atlantic.

Not too shabby as first year head coach.

In 2011, Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers where back in the ACC Championship Game. This time they came out victorious. They beat Frank Beamer’s Virginia Tech Hokies 38-10. Every time since 2011 the Tigers are undefeated in the ACC Championship Game.

A career of winning gets rewarded

In Dabo’s eight years the Tigers have posted a 89-28 record. This record gives Dabo the second-highest winning percentage in Clemson history. Also under his tenure, the Tigers are 54-15 inside the conference. One of the most telling stats is that Swinney has defeated 8 National Championship-winning coaches (Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Les Miles, Jimbo Fisher, Bobby Bowden, Gene Chizik, Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban).

The last two years of Clemson football is just really the icing on the cake of why he earned this new extension. The Tigers’ record in the last two years is 28-2. They have made the last two College Football Playoffs and the Tigers have the second most wins in the CFB Playoffs (3) and only one loss.

The cherry on top of the icing is last year’s National Championship. The first one for the Tigers since 1981.
