BYU football and Portland State meet each other on college football’s opening weekend. What channel is it on and how can you watch the game at home?

ESPN FPI gives BYU at 98.1 percent chance of winning first game of the season against the Portland State Vikings. If that’s not one-sided, then what is? But it’s football. And that’s been missing from Saturdays for way too many months. Even if fans don’t know a single player taking the field they’re going to tune in for some pigskin that counts, sorry NFL preseason.

Here’s everything you need to know to watch BYU take on Portland State this Saturday.

Date: August 26, 2017
Time: 3:00 p.m. ET
Venue: LaVell Edwards Stadium
Network: ESPN
Live Stream: WatchESPN

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this is the only time this season that the Portland Vikings are going to have a game aired on ESPN in a national broadcast spot. Regardless, the Vikings will have their three hours of fame when they travel to Provo, Utah to take on the Cougars.

What’s at stake?

BYU has a storied history, but their results over the past few years haven’t gotten them over the hump. The Cougars haven’t been worse than 8-5 since going independent in 2011. Could this be the season where they break through and earn a New Year’s Six Bowl invitation?

The Cougars have plenty of new faces this season, including a new starting quarterback. BYU will replace long time starter Taysom Hill this year. However, with the plethora of injuries he suffered in his career, next man up Tanner Mangum got plenty of experience. Now the job is his to lose, and if his tremendous freshman season is any indicator, the Cougar offense could be scary good in 2017.
