Colorado State football had a statement win against the Oregon State Beavers just one week before they take on their in-state rivals Colorado.

Colorado State took their chance at the national spotlight and ran with it. Their 31-point defeat of the Oregon State Beavers put the Mountain West on alert. The Rams entered the game as four point favorites and ended up blowing the spread out of the water.

The Colorado Buffaloes get a chance at their in-state rival next week. The PAC-12 could use another shot to show that they can defeat a Group of Five team like Colorado State. However, this could end up being a very formidable team in Fort Collins this season.

Oregon State did not get the start to their season they had hoped for. Transfer quarterback Jake Luton struggled to make anything happen on offense. Running back Ryan Nall was the only consistent source of offense for the Beavers. Luton threw three interceptions and only two touchdowns. Nall totaled 115 yards and one touchdown. Most coming on a 75 yard touchdown run.

Colorado State completely dominated the Oregon State defense. Senior quarterback Nick Stevens threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns, showing why he’s one of the best Group of Five quarterbacks in the country. Wide receiver Michael Gallup caught 11 passes for 134 yards. Gallup is one of the better weapons, flying under the radar, in the nation.

This does not look like it’s going to be an easy season for former Wisconsin and current Oregon State head coach Gary Anderson. The Beavers might not reach the three-win mark this year. They have an uphill battle in front of them in the PAC-12 North in 2017. Now, let’s take a look at the three takeaways from Colorado State vs. Oregon State.
