Colorado State football opened the 2017 season with a bang, exploding for 58 points against Oregon State to improve to 1-0.

Opening the 2017 season at a new stadium in Fort Collins with an electric atmosphere, Colorado State football looked to fall victim to early jitters. The Rams didn’t seem to play well early on, falling behind 7-0 to visiting Oregon State.

The Beavers were expected to keep the game close, and even come out on top, but the Power Five foe didn’t put up much of a fight as the game progressed. It’s not that Oregon Stare didn’t try, it was more so that the Colorado State offense was too much to bear.

Following a 75-yard touchdown run by Oregon State’s Ryan Nall in response to a Colorado State score, the Rams took over. In fact, after falling behind 17-14, the Rams out-scored the Beavers 44-10 and ran away with their first win in their new stadium.

Mike Bobo’s offense was electric and showed the nation that it might just be up to the task of competing for a Mountain West title with Boise State. It finished with 525 yards and 58 points, and that was with the offense sticking to the run for most of the fourth quarter.

Nick Stevens looked like a serious dark-horse Heisman threat, passing for 334 yards and three touchdowns on 26-of-39 completions. Could he be the best unknown Group of Five quarterback?

With a receiver like Michael Gallup to throw to, it’s not hard to see why Stevens has so much success. He caught 11 passes for 134 yards, including a crucial late-game over-the-shoulder snag to five the Rams a big first down deep in Beaver territory.
