Saturday afternoon’s Oregon State vs Colorado State game was the first of the season and we have live highlights, top performers from the game.
Entering the 2017 season fresh off a 4-8 campaign, Oregon State looked to get off to a hot start against Colorado State in their new stadium. The Rams would be playing their home games on campus in Fort Collins for the first time in about 50 years and the atmosphere was electric.
The Rams were fresh off a bowl appearance last season — one in which they allowed 61 points in a loss to Idaho. The defense needed to have better luck in this one.
Gary Andersen’s squad entered the game with high hopes and got off to a hot start, scoring the first touchdown of the college football season on a 39-yard pass from Jake Luton to Timmy Hernandez. Running back Ryan Ball assisted in the scoring drive and looks the part of a bruising back in 2017.
Other than a 75-yard scamper by Nall in the first half, the Rams’ offense dominated the game. After falling behind 17-14, it was all Colorado State, going on a 44-10 run to end the game.
Despite not being a “premier game” in college football, this was one of the more exciting contest of Week 0.
Keep it tuned in here for live updates, top performers and a final score from the first college football game of the 2017 season.
Three Stars
1. Michael Gallup: One of the nation’s best receivers, and most underrated, Gallup finished with 11 receptions for 134 yards. He proved to be the top target in the Rams’ passing game.
2. Nick Stevens: The Rams’ gunslinger had a heck of a game, passing for 334 yards and three touchdowns on 26-of-39 completions. He just wore down the Beavers’ secondary.
3. Ryan Nall: The main bright spot for the Beavers was the star running back who finished with 115 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. He was, however, held in check in the second half.
