Oregon State football opened the 2017 campaign on the road against the Colorado State Rams and it didn’t take long for the Beavers to find the endzone.

College football is back! In somewhat anticlimactic fashion, Oregon State and Colorado State trades some three and outs before the Beavers offense slowly kicked into gear.

Jake Luton connected on a 39 yard pass to Timmy Hernandez, registering the first touchdown of the 2017 season. Colorado State was caught sleeping. There wasn’t a Ram in the vicinity of Hernandez when he waltzed into the endzone to give the Beavers the early lead.

The Oregon State offense wasn’t anything special a year ago. The Beavers finished with the 86th ranked scoring offense in the country, averaging just 26.2 points per game.

On the other sideline, Colorado State had plenty of firepower a year ago. The Rams were the 28th ranked scoring offense, putting up 35.3 points per game. Neither team has a defense that is expected to make noise this year. Both squads were rather porous last season and will both be working out the kinks as the season progresses.

If it wasn’t the first game of the season the eyes of the nation wouldn’t be on Fort Collins, CO. However, it’s the only game on right now and the appetite for football must be quelled somehow. Four more games follow this one, but until they get under way fans are going to have to hope that the fireworks continue. Who knows, maybe this game between two relatively anonymous programs turns into an instant classic that reruns on SportsCenter all year. One can dream, right?
