3. Jackson Tyner finishes game as starting quarterback for Rice

Rice did not figure their starting quarterback battle out until very recently. According to the Houston Chronicle, Sam Glaesmann was named the starting QB for Rice in the season opener over sophomore’s Jackson Tyner and J.T. Granato.

Tyner finished the 2016 season as Rice’s starter. Both Tyner and Granato do have some playing time, but not more than just a few games. In the Stanford game last year, Tyner finished 10 of 37 for 68 passing yards. He does at least have some starting experience against the Cardinal.

Rice does not have much to lose if Stanford gets a big lead early. They can figure out their quarterback situation and get their offense together before conference play starts. The Conference-USA seems wide open for the Owls to take an underdog role this year.

Following a three win season, Rice needs to build some positive offensive momentum during their non-conference slate of games. Tyner could be the answer for them at QB long-term.
