Colorado State Football: Is Nick Stevens for real?
Saturday was the start of college football season. It was also the beginning of Colorado State football starting quarterback Nick Stevens‘ coming out party.
Before yesterday no one gave a rip about Colorado State football, but now its all we can think about. The whole nation watched Rams’ quarterback Nick Stevens take the field for the first time in the 2017 season and he didn’t disappoint.
He finished the game with 334 yards passing, completing 26 of 39 passes for three touchdowns and a QBR of 158.9. He just looked masterful behind the center of Mike Bobo‘s offense. Early in the game, an Oregon State defender almost knocked him out of the game. But Stevens came back. And after that point in the game, he was completely in control of the game.
With him behind the center, the Rams beat the Beavers 58-27, all but seven points were from the offense. All of the scoring drives but three started from their of half of the field. But he continued to march on the Beaver defense the whole night. Three out of the six touchdowns started inside or at their own 25 yard line. He was just in a zone that night.
The drive that ended Oregon State’s chances was with 11:52 left in the game. The Rams were up by 10 just after Oregon State scored a touchdown. The drive started at their 25 yard line.
On the first play, Stevens found Michael Gallup on for a gain of four yards. Next came an incomplete pass. The third play of this drive was one of many Nick Stevens’ throws that left everyone in the stands and at home watching with the mouths ajar. On third and six, Gallup lines up out wide and runs a go route route and Stevens throws a 48-yard pipe shot to get the Rams inside scoring territory.
After the Gallup 48-yard gain, Izzy Matthews ran for a gain of three yards. The fifth and final play was a swing pass to Detrich Clark for a 20-yard score. This 5 play, 75 yard touchdown drive only took 89 seconds.
