College football started out with a huge bang and set the stage for the Labor Weekend. Many storylines came out of last week. Every Monday, there will be three topics and you can decide if it is an overreaction or if it is actually a fair assessment.

You can get involved by using the hashtag #CFBOverreactions and tagging my Twitter handle and suggesting your own overreaction. Let’s get into this Week 1’s three topics.

1. Stanford’s Offense Is Better Without Christian McCaffrey

Crazy to believe but the Stanford Cardinal offense looked fantastic against Rice on last Saturday. During the game, Stanford actually threw the ball more than they ran it. The offense lit up the Rice Owls for 62 points. The third most points in the David Shaw era.

Keller Chryst went 14-24, threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns. He had a QBR of 88.1, a passer rating of 174.4 and his yards per average attempt was 10.54. Christian McCaffrey’s replacement also had a great game on the ground. Bryce Love had 180 yards on 13 carries and one rushing touchdown.

Cameron Scarlett spelled Love and had 83 yards on the ground on 8 carries and three rushing touchdowns.

This year it looks like Shaw has found great balance. Against Rice, Shaw called 37 passes and 36 runs and had 656 yards of offense. It was a great game for the team to show that they can move pass Christian McCaffrey.

Maybe the offense is better without No. 5 on the field.
