Saturday evening’s season opener between LSU football and the BYU Cougars has been moved from Houston to New Orleans.
In case you have been living under a rock, Houston was devastated by Hurricane Harvey which ripped through the city over the weekend. It left thousands without homes and even more without power.
After the heartbreaking natural disaster struck the city, and plenty of Texas’ Gulf side, Houston has been forced to think about rebuilding efforts. It’s been one of the worst storms in recent memory and there’s one city that can empathize: New Orleans.
Well, the city of New Orleans will also play host to a game that was supposed to take place in Houston next weekend between LSU and BYU, according to reports.

LSU will obviously treat this more as a home game than BYU seeing as it’s in the Tigers’ home state. The Cougars will be hitting the road and heading even further east than they had originally planned.
The hurricane has made traveling conditions to the city of Houston unbearable. Moreover, NRG Stadium would likely be empty for kickoff due to the massive flooding in the city. Fortunately, the two teams have planned ahead and are agreeing to head to New Orleans for the big game.

Mercedez-Benz Superdome, assuming that’s where the game takes place, actually holds 4,000 more fans than NRG Stadium, so capacity crowds shouldn’t be an issue. Houston is in a bad state right now, so hopefully it gets the help it needs. For now, LSU will be staying close to home for the opener.
