The Virginia Tech Hokies kick off their season against West Virginia on Sept. 3 and with that comes some bold predictions.

The Virginia Tech Hokies look ready for the 2017 season. Head coach Justin Fuente has wasted little time in naming Josh Jackson starting quarterback. Jackson, a redshirt freshman, is a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan who will bring a dual-threat attack to the table.

Jackson has shown coaches he’s ready to lead an offense that returns just five starters last season. Luckily for Jackson, two of those starters are running back Travon McMillian and wide receiver Phillips.

McMillian is due for a big season after rushing for 671 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 145 carries. Phillips had a breakout 2016 season with 76 catches for 983 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The two should be a huge focal point in the Hokies’ offense as will Jackson.

Jackson will need to find another target in the receiving game and unfortunately for him, the Virginia Tech Hokies lost true freshman Caleb Farley for the season. Eric Kumah, Phil Patterson or James Clark should step in and contribute in his place.

The biggest advantage the Hokies have is there are so many unknowns on offense. The offensive line could improve, or it couldn’t. The defense could give up 30 points to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets or they could shut down the Triple Option.

Mystery surrounding the Virginia Tech Hokies is a good thing, because it leaves opposing teams guessing. Here are five reasons there’s no need to fret, though, as year two under Justin Fuente should be another success story.
