BYU came up just short of 10 wins in 2016. In head coach Kalani Sitake’s first-year with the program, the Cougars won nine games. That included a victory over the Wyoming Cowboys in the Poinsettia by a narrow three-point margin.

Quarterback Tanner Mangum returns for another year. This time, it’s without long-time quarterback Taysom Hill who could never really stay healthy. The pressure on Magnum should be less drastic than in year’s past since the starting job is solely his.

BYU gets three of their four toughest tests out of the way in the first four weeks. The season opener against Portland State out of the FCS should not be a problem. However, LSU, Utah, and Wisconsin are not forgiving opponents.

If BYU can walk out of that three game stretch with one or two wins, the rest of the schedule should be much easier to win eight more.
