Opportunity is there for Washington football to make its second consecutive College Football Playoff appearance if it takes care of business.

Washington took the college football world by storm. Few expected them to do what they did in 2016. Winning the Pac-12 is not an easy task. USC is the favorite to win the conference now. It is still Washington’s conference to lose.

Junior Jake Browning is the key driver for Washington. He threw more than 40 touchdown passes one year ago. Wide receiver John Ross is gone. He was the best player on offense. Browning and running back Myles Gaskin are now.

Dante Pettis replaces Ross. He needs to step up as primary receiver. Running backs Gaskin and Lavon Coleman are formidable. Gaskin and Coleman could combine for more than 2,000 rushing yards. Pettis and Chico McClatcher should be Browning’s best targets. Freshman Ty Jones is solid.

The schedule stacks up easy for UW. The Huskies face one Power Five team out of conference. Rutgers is not a good team. Fresno State is their toughest non-conference opponent. Montana is an easy win for any FBS team.

Washington avoids USC during the regular season. Sam Darnold led the Trojans to the only regular season defeat of the Huskies last year. The Huskies do face Stanford, Washington State, Colorado, Oregon, and Utah. Winning the Pac-12 is not easy.

Head coach Chris Peterson built something special. He proved that at Boise State and Washington. Keeping the Huskies at the top is challenging. They’re not a known recent power in the conference. Oregon, Stanford, or Wazzu could claim top spot in the Pac-12 North.

The Huskies travel to face Rutgers on Sept. 1 but Week 1 won’t teach us much. Browning could get an easy stat boost.

Now, let’s take a look at three games the Washington Huskies are guaranteed to win.
