Oklahoma State vs Tulsa: Live highlights, top players

Thursday night’s Oklahoma State vs Tulsa game could be one of the highest scoring of the opening week.

If you’re an Oklahoma State fan, you have to feel optimistic about the start of the 2017 season. You have one of the most prolific offenses in the nation led by Heisman candidate Mason Rudolph as well as potential all-conference running back Justice Hill and all-everything receiver James Washington.

The defense may be the only issue, especially against a Tulsa team that ranked fourth in college football last season in yards per game. However, the Golden Hurricane will be replacing quarterback Dane Evans who had a spectacular 2016 season. He passed for over 3,000 yards and will be replaced by Chad President and Luke Skipper.

Will that uncertainty at quarterback hurt the Golden Hurricane? It’s possible, but this Oklahoma State defense is nothing to write home about, ranking 92nd a year ago.

The Cowboys got off to a hot start, scoring on their first drive and adding another passing touchdown thanks to Rudolph. They’d have a 21-0 lead after just one quarter, but Tulsa matched the Cowboys in the second as each scored 17 points.

The game was all over from there as the Cowboys just tacked on and finished off with a resounding 59-24 blowout win. Defense could use some work, though.

1. Mason Rudolph: The Heisman candidate kicked off his campaign early on Thursday. He finished 20-of-24 with 303 yards and three touchdowns before departing early in the fourth. He added a touchdown run.

2. James Washington: In the first half alone, Washington had over 100 yards receiving. He finished with six catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns. This guy is the real deal.

3. Justice Hill: The talented running back had a quietly impressive day for the Cowboys. He finished with 132 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

What’s next?

Oklahoma State’s schedule doesn’t get much tougher next week as the Cowboys take on South Alabama on the road. They should have no problem there. Tulsa, on the other hand, will host UL-Lafayette. The Golden Hurricane will look to gain some early-season steam.
