Pac-12 Football: 5 teams on upset alert in Week 1
By Zach Bigalke
Pac-12 football teams are opening the season with some deceptively challenging contests. Here are five Pac-12 schools on upset alert in Week 1.
Every year, the Pac-12 schedule seems to open with one of two types of games.
On one hand are the schools that scheduled Power Five opponents. Sometimes those games are still mismatches, like Washington at Rutgers. Most, though, are of the variety of Texas A&M coming to Pasadena to play UCLA or Cal visiting North Carolina.
On the other hand, there are those schools that choose to take on Group of Five and FCS teams to warm up into the season. Five teams scheduled FCS opponents, but even those are deceptively challenging games in some cases. Like Power Five teams, some Group of Five opponents are New Year’s Six contenders and some are likely walkovers.
In either case, the Pac-12 team will enter the game in all but one of the conference’s Week 1 matchups. As we ramp up into the new year, these contests could help determine the shape of the entire college football season across the country. West Coast contenders could make or break their seasons against some risky opponents.
Which of these schools are most likely to fall and start out their new campaigns in a hole? Click ahead to see which Pac-12 teams ought to be on upset alert in Week 1.
