There are a few ACC football teams that could struggle to take care of their opponents even if they’re favored in their respective matchups.

After Clemson won the National Championship over the Alabama Crimson Tide last year, the ACC established itself as the best conference in college football. Yet, the bottom half of the conference has some teams that do not measure up to Power Five quality.

A few of the ACC’s teams that are listed as favorites have even matchups on their hands. For example, NC State faces South Carolina and the Wolfpack are the favorite. The Gamecocks are sure to be a solid team in 2017.

The ACC has all 14 teams playing in Week 1. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons already defeated Presbyterian, out of the FCS. Syracuse and Boston College play on Sept. 1, while most teams play on Sept. 2. We’ll see head coach Dabo Swinney fresh off his contract extension playing against the Kent State Golden Flashes in one of the first games on Saturday.

Florida State has the biggest game of the weekend in the ACC. They take on Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide in primetime on Saturday night. The Noles are the highest-ranked team in the ACC, even after Clemson won the National Championship. They have the biggest say on what the college football world sees in the ACC in 2017.

For the ACC to continue to be tabbed as the best conference in the nation, it needs to win another National Championship. Florida State, Clemson, and Louisville have the best chance to at least make the College Football Playoff. Former Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson makes his run at back-to-back awards this year.

Now, let’s take a look at 5 ACC teams on upset alert in Week 1.
