Washington football opens their 2017 season with a cross-country road trip to take on Rutgers. What channel is it on and how can you watch the game?

Rutgers was bad last year. Really bad. The Scarlet Knights finished 2-10 in 2016. Their lone victories came at home against Howard and New Mexico. In back-to-back weeks they were crushed 58-0 by Ohio State and 78-0 by Michigan.

Washington was the No. 8 scoring offense in the country last season. The Huskies put up more than 41 points per game and return most of their offensive weapons, including quarterback Jake Browning. ESPN FPI gives them a 93.8 percent chance of victory.

These two schools met for the first time a year ago on the Huskies’ home turf. It ended in a 48-13 slaughter in favor of Washington. There’s no reason to expect anything different this time around. Washington should be 1-0 after Week 1, but then again, that’s why they plat the games, right?

What’s at stake?

Washington has legitimate College Football Playoff aspirations. They were the Pac-12 representative a year ago. Preseason Pac-12 predictions have the conference going to USC by a slight margin, but don’t think the Huskies are going to go quietly. For now they’ll take it one game at a time.

Rutgers is continuing to rebuild. In 2017 they’ll focus on taking care of winnable home games and trying to double their win total from a year ago. Eastern Michigan next week is winnable. This week they’re just trying to score.

The Huskies will have to replace first round pick John Ross. They already have the next man up on the roster, Dante Pettis. He and Browning should connect for double-digit touchdowns again in 2017, starting with at least one on opening weekend.
