Boise State Football vs Troy: 3 Takeaways from the Broncos’ win
By Zach Bigalke
Boise State football survived a showdown against fellow Group of Five contender Troy to begin the 2017 season. Here are three things we learned from the Broncos win.
Boise State survived a squeaker in a matchup of Group of Five hopefuls. Troy came to the Smurf Turf in Idaho in the first-ever showdown between the Broncos and the Trojans. Neal Brown‘s squad hung with the Broncos for most of the game. A late touchdown gave the home side a double-digit victory, but that masquerades what was really a close game all day.
The eventual 24-13 victory by Boise State was hardly an overpowering effort by the hosts, though, and it will be interesting to see how the season plays out from here for both schools. This game could theoretically serve as a tiebreaker down the road once the College Football Playoff selection committee deliberates about which Group of Five team will get the berth in a New Year’s Six bowl in 2017.
Once again, Boise State looks like one of the best mid-major programs in the country. What we learned, moreover, is that Troy is at least as good as last year’s roster. Here are three takeaways from the close contest between the pair of Group of Five contenders that transpired at Albertsons Stadium in Week 1.
