Notre Dame football notched their first win of the 2017 season against Temple, building some momentum for the Fighting Irish before facing Georgia next week.

Notre Dame had a tough opening week matchup against the Temple Owls. Even without former head coach Matt Rhule and quarterback P.J. Walker, the Owls are still project to be a bowl team this year. The Irish did not have the ability to slip up and still win this one, at least not comfortably.

Junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush got his first start of his career. Star running back Josh Adams ran all over the Temple defense. The dual threat ability of Wimbush and the elusiveness of Adams is a hard combination for any defense to stop.

Temple is notorious for having one of the most physical and talented defenses of any Group of Five team. They had a real hard time stopping Notre Dame’s prolific offense, especially in the first half. The Owls tried hard to get back in the game on multiple occasions, yet the Irish seemed to pull away each time.

Opposed to the strong Notre Dame rushing attack, Temple had a hard time getting their ground game going. Starting rusher Ryquell Armstead fumbled at a key point in the game in the fourth quarter that likely cost the Owls their final shot at staying in the contest.

Georgia needs watch out next week when they travel to South Bend. This is a changed ND squad and they look like a top 25 team once again. Head coach Brian Kelly did not put his best foot forward last year and changed his attitude for the 2017 campaign.

A victory next week against the Dawgs would guarantee a spot in the top 25 for Notre Dame. They proved against Temple that they are not the same four win team that they were a season ago. Wimbush and Adams are the main reason for that.
