Wyoming football doesn’t carry a lot of weight on the national stage, but now America is paying attention to quarterback Josh Allen.

The Wyoming Cowboys play in the Mountain West Conference. Other than the Boise State hayday, there hasn’t been a lot of national media coverage of that conference. Josh Allen is making people pay attention to the Mountain West again.

Allen is already in the conversation of potential first round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. He’s had some bumps along the way, but scouts are tantalized by his size and his arm strength. He wasn’t though to be the most mobile quarterback, but this afternoon against Iowa he proved he can move his feet when he needs to.

Watch this scramble against the Hawkeyes:

Iowa is a solid program. They seem to be a perennial lock to win eight or so games and be in the mix for a Big Ten title on their better years. The Cowboys weren’t supposed to go into Kinnick Stadium and beat the Hawkeyes. With halftime approaching they find themselves still very much so in the game.

The biggest knock on Allen entering the season was his carelessness with the football. He threw 15 interceptions in 2016. So far the Hawkeyes have turned the ball over twice and Allen has yet to throw a pick. If that trend keeps up the Cowboys could very well make things interesting down the stretch.

ESPN’s win probability model only gives the Cowboys’ a 20.2 percent chance of pulling off the upset. They currently trail Iowa 7-3 late in the second half. But with a quarterback as good as Allen, all you need is a chance.
