The Indiana Hoosiers put a real scare into the hearts of Ohio State football fans when they put the Buckeyes on upset alert in the first half.
The No. 2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes got off to a slow start against the Indiana Hoosiers on the opening night of Week 1’s action. Head coach Urban Meyer took a while to get his team to pull away from Indiana and notch a comfortable victory.
Ohio State entered the 2017 season as the favorite to win the Big 10. Yet, all the Big 10 teams ranked in the top 25 had a good week. The Michigan Wolverines got themselves a convincing win over the No. 17 Florida Gators.
The No. 9 Wisconsin Badgers racked up an easy victory over the Utah State Aggies, 59-10. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook and Wisconsin’s front seven could take them all the way to the Big Ten Championship Game.
Moreover, the No. 6 Penn State Nittany Lions could be the biggest challenger to Ohio State. Penn State has the best running back in the country in Saquon Barkley, an experienced and physical defense, and a head coach leading the Nittany Lions in the right direction. They rolled over the Akron Zips in their opener.
Ohio State has some tough competition in the Big Ten this year. Indiana gave them a taste of what even a middle tier team in the Big Ten is like. One of the middle tier teams in the conference will rise up and knock off OSU, UM, PSU, etc. at some point. Whether it be the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Michigan State Spartans, Iowa Hawkeyes, or the Maryland Terrapins, something interesting will happen.
A lot of top 10 teams took a while to shake off the rust. Ohio State was no different. Indiana quarterback Richard Lagow kept the Hoosiers going for the first half. The athleticism and speed of the Buckeyes on both sides of the ball overwhelmed the Hoosiers in the second half.
