Washington football played it close to the chest against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Huskies were on upset alert at one point. Should we be worried?

The Washington Huskies just won a PAC-12 Championship and found their way into the top four for the College Football Playoff. Now, Washington has the target on their back in the PAC-12 and every opponent is sure to give them their best.

Even with the Huskies’ conference title, they’re still not the favorite to win the PAC-12 again in 2017. No. 4 USC is the favorite to win the conference this year. However, neither USC nor Washington looked good in Week 1.

USC took on the Western Michigan Broncos, a team that made a New Year’s Six Bowl last year. It took USC until the fourth quarter to ultimately pull away from Western Michigan and claim the 49-31 victory.

Washington faced the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Sep. 1. It was one of the bigger games of the week before action kicked off on Saturday. We had been waiting to see how the Huskies would do with stars like receiver John Ross and defensive back Budda Baker gone.

Rutgers gave Washington all they could take for the first three quarters. Receiver Dante Pettis saved the Huskies in the first half. Pettis had two plays of 50 yards or more, including a punt return for a touchdown.

Washington ended up with the 30-14 victory. Rutgers started to tail off in the third and fourth quarters. It was another game where a top 10 team took a while to wake up. Yet, we do not know if Washington can be as good as they were in 2016.

Now, let’s take a look at 5 overreactions from Washington’s win over Purdue.
