College football kicked off its actual Week 1 slate this week. Who are the real dark horses that could take the college football world by storm?

There’s always two or three teams that surprise the college football world and win 10 or 11 games when no one expected them to even be ranked. Last year, it was the Colorado Buffaloes and Penn State Nittany Lions that came out of nowhere and either win their division or their entire conference.

This year, another group of teams will come out of nowhere and dethrone teams expected to finish at the top of Power Five conferences. For example, with the season ending injury to Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois, the ACC could now be wide open.

A few teams expected to possibly be dark horses also lost in Week 1, proving that they were pretenders instead of contenders. No. 23 ranked Texas underwent a massive upset at the hands of the Maryland Terrapins in head coach Tom Herman‘s first game with the program.

The Baylor Bears also were thought to at least have some say in what happened in the Big 12. Instead, Baylor lost to an FCS opponent in the Liberty Flames in first-year head coach Matt Rhule’s first game with the program.

Some games are still left to be played this weekend with the Tennessee Volunteers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets facing off on Memorial Day. Georgia Tech could be a team that surprises some people. They had a good bounce back season last year after a very disappointing 2015 campaign.

Power Five conference teams always have a better chance at making the College Football Playoff than Group of Five teams. The resume almost always looks better when you win 11 or 12 games in a Power Five conference. That’s why most of the teams on this list are Power Five teams.

Now, let’s take a look at 10 unranked teams that you should buy into after Week 1.
