College football saw plenty of crazy happenings over a crazy Week 1. Here were three stories in particular that stood out the most.

This is the second installment of Overreaction Monday for the 2017 College Football Season. It is also a special one since it is College Football Overreaction Tuesday. What are the biggest storylines coming out of Labor Day Weekend?

There were some great blowouts, close games, great comebacks and some shocking upsets. But before Week 2 starts let’s checkout some my reactions to the Labor Day weekend.

1. Ohio State will not be in the College Football Playoffs

The first half of the Ohio State Buckeyes’ Thursday night game was horrible. They were down 14-13 to Indiana at the half. Yes, they did end up smashing the Hoosiers, but what I saw in the first half is very telling.

The one flaw J.T. Barrett has in his game is the deep pass game. It has always been his curse. This is the big reason why Urban Meyer went with Cardale Jones over Barrett in 2015. The offense had to go into the locker room and totally take the ball out of Barrett’s hand. Yes, he threw three touchdowns in the second half, but two of them were short passes that turned into long runs after catch. The 59-yard touchdown pass to Johnnie Dixon only traveled 10 yards in the air.

Barrett looked more like former Urban Meyer quarterback and current Kansas City Chief Alex Smith. The Buckeyes worked all season to try to develop that part of their passing attack. It failed badly.

To win these big games against better defenses like, Michigan and Penn State, you will need those big down the field throws. And from this point in Barrett’s career, he has not shown he can consistently do that. You can’t dink and dunk to a championship in today’s college football.
