Maryland Football: Tyrrell Pigrome ruled out for season with torn ACL
Maryland football has lost starting quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome for the season with a torn ACL. Where do the Terrapins go from here?
Since taking over as Maryland football’s head coach, D.J. Durkin has seemingly changed the culture in College Park. He is putting together a winning program, and it’s only a matter of time before the Terrapins contend for Big Ten East titles.
Maryland pulled off one of the biggest upsets of Week 1 when it went on the road to take down No. 23 Texas in the newly-initiated Tom Herman era.
The 51-41 upset in Austin had college football fans in awe, but there was still a major question to be answered following the win: what happened to Tyrrell Pigrome? He suffered an injury late and was replaced by freshman Kasim Hill.
According to reports, the injury has been diagnosed as a season-ending ACL tear. Moreover, Jesse Aniebonam will also miss the rest of the year.
Pigrome was looking solid as the Terps’ starting quarterback in the upset effort. He was 9-for-12 passing with 175 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a pick, but was reliable all afternoon despite that. He also rushed for 64 yards and a score.
However, this injury is sure to set the offense back a bit. While Hill did come in and play well, completing 3-of-3 attempts for 44 yards, he’s still a freshman. The replacement will come with a learning curve.
