Tennessee football beat Georgia Tech in double overtime after the Yellow Jackets failed a two-point conversion.

What. A. Finish. Yet another Week 1 contest going down to the wire as Tennessee football took on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The game was highly-anticipated and marked the final matchup of the first week of play.

The Labor Day battle between Butch Jones’ Volunteers and Paul Johnson’s Yellow Jackets seemed to be in favor of the latter late in the game as Georgia Tech held a 28-14 lead,

The Volunteers weren’t going down that easily, though. Tennessee stormed back, thanks to a late forced fumble by the Vols’ defense and a long drive in the final minutes to knot things up. John Kelly also impressed on the ground.

It was a blocked field goal by Tennessee that forced overtime, denying a last-second Georgia Tech victory in regulation.

Georgia Tech didn’t want to go to a third overtime, though, and it decided to go for two and the win after a rushing touchdown by quarterback TaQuon Marshall. The result? Not so good.

The Yellow Jackets decided to go away from the blocking scheme and hang Marshall out to dry. His lead blocker missed the crucial block which led to the game-winning stop. He tried to toss the ball to his running back, but it hit the turf first.

What a way to end the game, but you know Johnson is going to be questioned about the play-call on the two-point conversion as well as the decision to go for it. Have to love the gutsy decision, though.
