Notre Dame football has an intriguing Week 2 matchup with Georgia, but here’s why the Fighting Irish will come out on top.

The season opener was a long-anticipated one for Notre Dame football fans. The Fighting Irish were coming off one of their worst seasons in recent memory, going 4-8. Not just that, but all the offseason talk about Brian Kelly on the hot seat had fans begging for the start of the season.

Finally, actual football is back and no longer are media members and opposing fans speculating. Well, that’s not entirely true as a win against Temple to open the season isn’t exactly good enough to silence all doubters. Still, the Fighting Irish are on the right track and a win over Georgia Saturday would be a huge statement.

Let’s take a look at five reasons why the Fighting Irish will beat the Bulldogs in South Bend.

5. No clear No. 1 target for Georgia

The Georgia offense has some major question marks after a Week 1 injury to Jacob Eason, but it’s worth pointing out that the Bulldogs don’t have a clear No. 1 target. That’s something that needs to be figured out moving forward, especially with a new quarterback taking over.

In the team’s first game of the season, the Bulldogs failed to establish a top target. In fact, D’Andre Swift, a running back, led the team with three receptions. Actually, he tied senior wide out Javon Wims who also had a team-high 81 yards and a touchdown.

Is Wims the team’s top receiving target, though? Many thought he’d have a major impact, with Terry Godwin, but three receptions don’t exactly scream No. 1 receiver material. Godwin will have to show up this week against Notre Dame in order to give the Bulldogs a shot.

Moreover, it could be possible that tight end Isaac Nauta is the top target. Still, nothing has been determined and that’s not good news for Jake Fromm in Week 2.
