Michigan State football takes on Western Michigan in Week 2. Here are three bold predictions ahead of the showdown between the Broncos and Spartans.

Last Saturday, Western Michigan went to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and hung tough against USC well into the fourth quarter. The Broncos eventually ran out of steam, falling 49-31 to the Trojans. But they have another shot at taking down a Power Five opponent when they face Michigan State on the road in Week 2.

After losing several key offensive players as well as head coach P.J. Fleck from last year’s squad, Western Michigan looks stronger than expected as they try to return to a New Year’s Six bowl game. They will try to take down a Spartans team that dispatched an overmatched Bowling Green team 35-10 in Week 1.

But the Broncos look to be far better than their MAC counterparts this year. Less than a year removed from its 3-9 effort in 2016, Michigan State cannot afford to lose games against Group of Five opponents. The showdown at Spartan Stadium could have lasting ramifications for both teams’ seasons.
