West Virginia and East Carolina have not played each other in quite a while. The ironic part about the first two matchups for the Mountaineers is that both games were against teams that are closer geographically than just about any other Big 12 team.

ECU did not put their best foot forward in Week 1 when they played James Madison, the former FCS National Champion. The Pirates came up short by a 20-point margin. A team like that is never an easy opponent the week after.

West Virginia is coming off a loss of their own, to Virginia Tech. Florida transfer quarterback Will Grier should be able to have his way with the ECU secondary. It’s one of the easier defenses that West Virginia faces this year.

The biggest challenge for West Virginia is going to be rebounding against, what should be, an inferior opponent. However, if they get caught looking ahead to the start of Big 12 play, it could cost them dearly. Starting this year with two straight losses would effectively eliminate them from the Playoff completely.
