3. Momentum building toward Big 12 play

West Virginia can compete in the Big 12 this year. Grier gives them an added dimension that they did not have with former quarterback Skyler Howard. Moreover, the Mountaineers finished in the top three in the Big 12 in 2016.

Head coach Dana Holgorsen received a contract extension during the offseason and he keeps improving the West Virginia football program. If West Virginia can knock off the Oklahoma schools they’ll be in great position to win the conference.

Before the Mountaineers think about facing the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys, they need to start off with taking care of the Kansas Jayhawks. The first Big 12 game on tap for West Virginia is Kansas on Sept. 23.

Kansas is a team that keeps improving under head coach David Beaty. However, the Jayhawks are likely to be a massive underdog. The Mountaineers only have Delaware State before they move into the Big 12 portion of their schedule and crunch time begins.
