Arkansas Football: 5 bold predictions vs TCU in Week 2
4. Three Razorbacks rush for 75+ yards
When Bret Bielema showed up at Arkansas he brought the power run game south. The passing prowess of Austin Allen and his brother Brandon before him drew the Hogs away from that run focus for a bit, but Bielema made it crystal clear what the offensive was going to be about in 2017: running the dang ball.
Arkansas ran 67 offensive plays against Florida A&M last week. 45 of them were rushing attempts. Those 45 carries were split between nine different players, but it was really three running backs that took the majority of the load.
Devwah Whaley, the starter, carried the ball 12 times for 60 yards. Freshman Chase Hayden had 14 carries for 120 yards and South Carolina graduate transfer David Williams picked up 23 yards on seven attempts.
Expect more of the same on Saturday. Each back is going to get double-digit touches and by the looks of last week it should be pretty easy for each of them to crack the five yards per carry mark. The more effective they are as a unit, the better each man will do on the ground by himself. The Razorbacks are committed to pounding away in 2017 and so far it looks like it’s going to work.
