Oklahoma State Football: Cowboys strike first, fast
Oklahoma State football is in an early slug fest at South Alabama on Friday night. This touchdown might be the difference maker.
Mason Rudolph is coming off a dominant performance in the Cowboys’ season opening victory last weekend over Tulsa. The senior quarterback threw for 303 yards on 20-of-24 passing for three touchdowns. He did not throw an interception.
The Cowboy offense is one of the better units in the Big 12. A good portion of that reason is their incredible quarterback, but he’s surrounded with plenty of help. Last week’s leading receiver, James Washington, has seen his name listed among the best players in college football and some early First Round NFL Mock Drafts.
Washington would be enough, but Rudolph also has Marcell Ateman, Dillon Stoner and Jalen McCleskey too. Once you consider the inclusion of 1,000+ yard rusher Justice Hill in the backfield it starts to seem just a little bit unfair. Why not ask the Jaguars, the latest team to fall victim to this powerhouse offense.
The teams traded three-and-outs before the Cowboys got on the board with a first quarter field goal. Then it was Washington who broke the game open with a 66 yard touchdown reception courtesy of a well placed Rudolph pass.
That touchdown tied Washington for the most touchdown receptions in Oklahoma State history. Stay tuned, that record is probably going to fall tonight.
The Cowboys have aspirations of a Big 12 championship. A win tonight would put them one step closer to achieving that goal. Rival Oklahoma travels north for a Top 10 showdown with Ohio State on Saturday. If the Sooners lose it would put the Cowboys ever so slightly in front in the race for the conference title.
