4. Sam Darnold struggles again

Darnold did not get the start when USC faced Stanford last year. Former USC quarterback Max Browne was still the starter in that game. However, once Darnold was given the keys to USC’s offense, they went on a very memorable run.

If Western Michigan can hold Darnold out of the touchdown column in the passing game, Stanford should be able to replicate that effort. Betting against Darnold is not something that fans should do on a consistent basis.

Yet, even if he has a great game, the Trojans will have an uphill battle in front of them. Stanford could be their toughest opponent during the 2017 campaign. Getting them in Week 2, on a full week’s rest is not the most favorable situation for the Trojans.

Expect improvement from Darnold this week. He will not get back to the same form we saw from him to conclude 2016 quite yet. It’ll take some time for Darnold to get back into a good groove and it could cost USC this contest.
