As the halftime whistle sounds, Arkansas football trails TCU by seven at home in a rematch of a game won by the Hogs in overtime.
TCU and Arkansas seem to be two teams that are perfect compliments of eachother. The Razorbacks like to pound the rock on the ground and the Horned Frogs rely on a consistent attack through the air. Well, throw those scripts out.
Arkansas has just 37 rushing yards at half. Last week against Florida A&M the Hogs picked up 236 yards on the ground. Surprisingly, the combination of Chase Hayden, Devwah Whaley and David Williams just havene’t been able to get anything going on the ground.
Likewise, the storyline for TCU seems a bit off kilter. Kenny Hill has throw for just 95 yards on 18 attempts. Rather than ride and die by Hill’s arm, the Frogs have stayed committed to the running game, outgaining Arkansas on the ground in the first half 84 to 37.
Three key stats
- 25 – Number of offensive plays for Arkansas in the first half. TCU ran 38 plays.
- 16 – Number of games with an interception for Kenny Hill in his last 20 appearances. He has one pick today.
- 6 – Number of first downs by the Razorbacks in the first half.
Arkansas adjustments
Austin Allen is getting absolutely destroyed in the pocket. The Razorbacks’ offensive line is struggling mightily once again. If they can’t find a scheme that allows for added protection they need to find a way to run the football.
TCU adjustments
Keep the ball away from Kenny Hill. This odd combination of running plays and short passes have given the Frogs a halftime lead. It’s working, so don’t stop. Letting Hill air it out when the running game is somewhat effective would be a mistake.

Outlook
Arkansas looks like the entire team is being held together with duct tape and string. If they can’t run the ball they’re not going to find a way to win, no matter how average TCU plays.
