After escaping an upset alert against Western Michigan, USC football opens Pac-12 play against Stanford. Here are five reasons the Trojans will beat the Cardinal.
Pac-12 play starts this weekend when Stanford heads to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to face USC on Saturday. Though they come into the contest as a 5.5-point favorite, there are plenty of people who are skeptical about the Trojans after victory was tougher to come by than anticipated against Western Michigan last week.
Western Michigan came to Los Angeles in Week 1 and hung with the Trojans into the fourth quarter. Last year the Broncos were the top Group of Five team, but key losses in the coaching staff and roster stunted the possibility of an upset. Or so it seemed, until the game began and USC struggled to put away their mid-major competition.
Season openers can sometimes be fluky like that, though. The Pac-12 South favorites have plenty of firepower and will be motivated to dominate a rival that has had their number in recent years. With a potent offense and a better-than-advertised defense, all the necessary ingredients are there for the Trojans to come away with victory at home.
Stanford won the battle between these two teams 27-10 at home last year. It was the seventh time in the past nine years that the Cardinal topped the Trojans. But as they continue their quest for a College Football Playoff spot, USC will prevail at home on Saturday. Here are five reasons why USC will beat Stanford in Week 2.
