College Football Rankings 2017: Projected Week 3 AP Top 25
By Zach Bigalke
With several key games canceled, there is a lot of speculation this week. Here is how the AP Top 25 should look when it is released for Week 3 on Sunday.
Hurricane Irma put Florida on high alert, and college football was the furthest thing on people’s minds as the storm approached. Only one Florida-based team played on Saturday, as Florida Atlantic went to Camp Randall Stadium to face No. 9 Wisconsin. As a result, four games featuring AP Top 25 teams were canceled.
It seems absurd to penalize teams for not playing due to a hurricane. But it must also be noted that two of the four are 0-1 teams in the standings, and already hanging tenuously on to their place in the rankings.
Saturday evening still offered multiple showdowns between Top 25 opponents. No. 2 Ohio State hosted No. 5 Oklahoma in a top-five battle. No. 6 USC welcomed No. 14 Stanford in an interdivisional Pac-12 rivalry game. No. 3 Clemson, the defending national champion, took on No. 13 Auburn at home. It all allowed for plenty of shakeup in the AP Top 25 projections heading into the Week 3 release tomorrow.
As we head into Week 3, there are still plenty of questions begging to be answered across the country. Florida teams were not the only ones who will leave pollsters pondering where they belong in the national hierarchy. At the risk of writing off No. 20 Washington State prematurely, who is currently tied 10-10 against Boise State at halftime, click ahead to see our early projections for how the AP Top 25 should look when it is released for Week 3 on Sunday.
