Ohio State Football: Baker Mayfield plants Oklahoma flag at midfield (Video)
Baker Mayfield stirred up some controversy after a win over Ohio State football on Saturday, planting Oklahoma’s flag at midfield.
Insert eyeball emojis wherever possible because there’s something brewing between the Buckeyes of Ohio State and Oklahoma. Following last year’s Buckeye win over the Sooners in Norman, Ohio State sang its fight song with its fans on the field.
Well, Baker Mayfield took exception to that.
The senior quarterback stated that neither he nor his teammates forgot what happened that night, including the fight song celebration. Although it’s a Buckeye tradition that happens wherever they go, win or lose, he didn’t like it.
How did he respond on Saturday night? After leading the Sooners to an impressive 31-16 victory under the lights in Columbus, Mayfield’s celebration got underway.
Obviously he was a little fired up, but was this retaliation to Ohio State singing their fight song too far? Some would argue yes, but see for yourself:
Mayfield has been known as an emotional guy, so this type of action isn’t all that surprising. He’s always got his heart on his sleeve, but maybe planting a flag into artificial turf — obviously not going to actually “plant” — wasn’t the best judgement. You know that somewhere Bob Stoops is shaking his head.

What do you think of the whole flag planting incident? Was it just Mayfield having fun or did he take it too far? Imagine these two teams meeting again in January. Now that would be fun.
